The lubricants for electric contacts are not conductive (usual range of resistivity from 1012 to 1015 O.cm)
Thanks to their very homogenous structure, electrical contact lubricants have to allow an on-off contact in each case.
Thus we avoid sparks, electric arcs or electrostatic charges accumulation.
Very often the contact lubricant has to be compatible with plastic materials that are surrounding the contact.
Lubricants for electric contacts should possess the following properties and characteristics :
- Regulate the flow of current (stable resistivity)
- Franc answer « on-off »
- Protection of contact :
- Anti-corrosion
- Anti-wear for gilded contacts
- Long term lubrication (relubrication impossible)
- High surface tension (does not migrate)
- Possible compatibility with plastics and elastomers
