Lubrication of contacts :

The lubricants for electrical contacts should possess the following characteristics :

• Regulate the flow of current (stable resistivity)
• Clear signal “on-off” (no initiation of electric arcs)
• Protection of contact
  • Anticorrosion
  • Anti-wear for gilded contact
• Life time lubrication (it is usually impossible to relubricate)
• Compatibility with plastics and elastomers

Lubrication of mechanisms :

Besides electrical contact, mechanical parts may have to be lubricated (knobs, springs, cams, guides, small gears, axis…) Thus, soft metals are in contact with plastics and elastomers. Here again, the extreme conditions lubricants replace the conventional lubricant.
